Crafting Onesies & Shirts for Our Little Bean: DIY Cricut Fun

When I was pregnant, I absolutely fell in love with so many adorable baby onesie designs on Etsy. I’d scroll and think, “I could make that!” I’d even played with my friend’s Cricut before, and I was already dreaming of all the things I could create at home—especially since a pack of plain onesies costs about the same as a single Etsy-designed one. I figured, why not make a lot of the basics myself?

Fast forward to when my son was six months old—I finally got my own Cricut as a holiday gift. That’s when my DIY obsession really took off. Our little guy, nicknamed “Little Bean” by friends during my pregnancy, now had a wardrobe that reflected all our quirky interests. Why settle for what was in stores when I could create custom pieces that matched our fandoms, humor, and personal style?

Gray fabric with "little bean" text and a small bean graphic in tan. Soft lighting creates a cozy mood in the domestic setting.

Here are some highlights from our Little Bean’s personalized wardrobe:

Nerdy & Fandom Fun

  • Pokémon Party: We attended a Pokémon-themed birthday, and of course, Little Bean needed a themed onesie. It took a LOT of weeding for the tiny details, but it was so worth it.

  • Ravenclaw Pride: For his sorting ceremony, I made a Ravenclaw onesie. Smaller pieces meant a bit more time, but it was quick enough and looked magical.

  • Schitt’s Creek Fans: “The Bebe” onesie was non-negotiable in our house. We love having a little bit of Alexis and David humor on display!

  • The Office Adventures: From a mini Dundie award to Jim’s “3 Hole Punch Jim” Halloween costume, our favorite show inspired some seriously cute baby attire.

Five T-shirts with unique designs and text: Pokémon illustration, "The Bébé," "Dundie Award Winner," "Curiosity, Wisdom, Ravenclaw," tie print. Colorful setting.

Seasonal & Silly Fun

  • Valentine’s Day: I went all out for a mini photo shoot, making a few themed shirts. There was “Mama is My Valentine” with tiny, painstakingly placed hearts (so much fun to weed!), and a Valentine’s set full of love and laughter.

  • Skateboarding & Star Wars: My husband’s love of skateboarding inspired a tiny themed tee, and with Little Bean’s Star Wars room and Yoda lovey, we had to make a Star Wars onesie.

  • Bathroom Humor: We even made one that gave us a laugh every time he ahem…farted. Parenting humor wins.

Kids' shirts with humorous Valentine-themed texts: "MAMA is my valentine," "BREAKIN' HEARTS & BLASTIN' farts," and "YODA ONE FOR ME" with Baby Yoda toy.

Music-Inspired Moments

We’re a full-on Taylor Swift household. I gifted some Cricut-made Swift onesies, and here are a few favorites:

  • “King of My Heart” and “Reputation” with a snake design for my little Reputation-era Swiftie.

  • A Valentine’s “Lover Boy” onesie.

  • And my bestie made a couple of gems: “A Lot Going On At The Moment” and “It’s Me, Hi, I’m the Problem, It’s Me.”

Five baby shirts with text designs. Phrases include "A LOT GOING ON AT THE MOMENT," "reputation," "it's me, hi," "King of my heart," and "Lover boy."

Making these pieces has been such a joy—not just for the crafting itself, but for creating something that truly represents our little family’s interests and humor. From simple designs to intricate weeding projects, the Cricut has allowed us to personalize our Little Bean’s wardrobe in ways we couldn’t find anywhere else.

I can’t wait to make even more shirts and onesies as he grows. It’s such a fun way to share our passions, humor, and little moments with everyone we love.
