Dressing My Toddler as Draco Malfoy: A Slytherin Mom Moment

As a proud Slytherin, I’ve always loved a little mischief, ambition, and style—and yes, that applies to my parenting too. So when it came time to dress my toddler for a Harry Potter-themed photo moment, there was no question: Draco Malfoy it had to be.

Why Draco? Well, they share a birthday with him (how could I resist?), my toddler has blonde hair that makes the Slytherin heir vibe even more perfect, and let’s be honest—there’s a tiny part of me that’s living out my own Hogwarts fantasy through this costume. My little one was sorted into Ravenclaw during our at-home sorting ceremony, but for today’s photo shoot, we were fully embracing Slytherin mischief.

Step 1: Setting the Magical Scene

Every wizard needs the right backdrop, and I was lucky enough to already have a backdrop holder—seriously, if you’re a mom trying to wrangle a toddler for photos, this is a game-changer. I chose a brick wall backdrop that gave Platform 9 ¾ vibes. It immediately set the scene for magical photos and made the whole costume feel more authentic.

Step 2: The Slytherin Uniform

Next, I needed the Draco-inspired uniform. I picked up a Slytherin-style outfit from Amazon that was perfect for cooler months—not ideal for a hot summer day, but great for this autumnal photo shoot. I paired the uniform with black pants and black shoes I already had, keeping it simple but classic.

There’s something so fun about dressing a toddler in a costume that’s both adorable and a little fancy. Seeing my child in a tie and cloak made me feel like I was living out a tiny piece of my Hogwarts dream.

Step 3: Wand and Wizarding Accessories

No Harry Potter look is complete without a wand. I found a kid-friendly Draco wand that truly felt like the icing on the cake. Watching my toddler pretend to cast spells and wave the wand with Slytherin flair was honestly priceless—and it made those chaotic toddler moments feel magical.

The Toddler Challenge

Let’s be real: toddlers do not always cooperate. I wanted to slick back their hair like Draco’s signature style, but between wriggling hands and the general chaos of a photo shoot, it didn’t happen. And that’s okay. In real life, magic often comes with a little mess, and sometimes you just have to pick your battles—wand over hair gel every time.

Birthday and Slytherin Magic

Dressing my toddler as Draco made the day extra special. Not only were we celebrating a birthday, but we were also sharing a little slice of Hogwarts magic together. As a Slytherin mom, it was impossible not to feel a little pride seeing my child in green and silver, embracing the cunning, ambitious, and stylish vibes of the House of Snakes.

Shop the Look

Dressing my toddler as Draco Malfoy wasn’t just about a costume—it was a way to share my love for Harry Potter, create magical moments, and embrace a little Slytherin mischief in our everyday lives. And let’s be honest, for any mom who’s ever dreamed of Hogwarts while juggling snacks, diapers, and chaos, this was a small but perfect bit of magic.
