Getting Your Pink Back (As a Postpartum Mom)

I kept hearing phrases like “you’ll feel like yourself again soon” or “it just takes time.”

But no one really explained how long that time might be—or how quiet, pale, and unfamiliar you might feel while you’re waiting.

For me, postpartum wasn’t an overnight transformation.

Honestly? I didn’t see much change until my child was around two years old.

In those early months and even that first year, everything felt… muted. I showed up, I loved deeply, I cared endlessly—but I felt faded. Like a pale pink version of myself. Still me, but softer, dimmer, tucked somewhere in the background while motherhood took center stage.

And that’s okay. That season made sense.

But slowly—without any big announcement or dramatic shift—I started to notice something different. The pink came back. Not all at once. Not the same shade as before.

It came back brighter in some ways, darker in others. More layered. More intentional.

I started reconnecting with things that were just mine again. Interests. Hobbies. Quiet moments. Small choices that weren’t about survival, schedules, or snacks. I didn’t stop being a mom—but I stopped being only a mom.

I bought a shirt that says Get Your Pink Back.”

And it sounds simple, but it means everything to me.

I don’t wear it every day. I put it on a few times a month, usually on days when I need the reminder most. A reminder that I’m allowed to nurture both sides of myself—the motherhood version of me and the individual woman who still has her own passions, preferences, and personality.

Getting your pink back doesn’t mean returning to who you were before kids.It means becoming someone new—while still honoring yourself.

If you’re in the dusty rose pink phase right now, please know this: You’re not lost. You’re not behind. And you’re not doing anything wrong.

Your color will come back. And when it does, it might be deeper, richer, and more beautiful than ever.
