Over 2 Years Later: My Amazon Nursery Staples That Actually Lasted

When I was pregnant, I read all those nursery must-have lists—and some were written by people whose babies apparently slept like tiny angels from day one. Meanwhile, my kiddo treated sleep like an optional hobby especially naps for while. Spoiler alert: it took a year to finally started winning the nap game.

Now here we are — 2 years later — and I can confidently say these are the Amazon finds that have been in use since the first week home and are still part of our daily routine. No clutter, no “used-once” regrets… just true staples that lasted from newborn chaos to toddler whirlwind.

1. Nanit Pro Camera + Floor Stand (link contains bundle)

From those early newborn days when I’d check if he was breathing every five minutes to now, when I use it to spy on his attempt for a nap, the Nanit has been worth it. I love the floor stand option because it doesn’t require drilling holes in the wall — perfect for renters or for rearranging the room when your toddler suddenly decides their crib belongs over there. When we transitioned from crib to toddler bed we ended up shifting the placement of the floor stand so we could also see the door.

My love for the Hatch is deep. It started as newborn white noise and a soft nightlight for 3 AM feeds. Now it’s a toddler bedtime cue — I hit the button, the “night-night light” turns on, and he knows it’s time to wind down (most of the time… toddlers, you know). Bonus: it’s programmable and grows with them. We have 4 set programmed settings with our main one we use is the red light with brown noise.

It’s always been filled with books, and every couple of months we rotate in new ones from his main bookshelf. Sometimes there’s also a random treasure tucked in there—because toddlers have their own idea of “decor.”

I didn’t realize how many tiny clothes a baby boy actually has until I started hanging them all up. These small, plain plastic hangers are just the right size for baby and toddler outfits — they keep everything neat and off the floor without any slipping off.

A game-changer for keeping chaos at bay. Newborn onesies and socks turned into toddler pants and PJs, but the dividers kept everything neat. It’s one of those small things that makes you feel like you’ve got your life together… even if your living room looks like a toy store exploded.

Not glamorous, but necessary. We installed these right away and never looked back. They’re simple, inexpensive, and keep curious toddler hands from turning blinds into a jungle gym.

In the early weeks, I was obsessed with making sure the nursery was the “perfect” temperature. Now, I still use it to check if I should add an extra blanket or switch to lighter PJs. It’s small, accurate, and one of those sneaky staples you don’t realize you’ll keep using.

If you know, you know. This thing has contained two years worth of diaper smells without making the whole nursery smell like… well, diapers. It takes regular trash bags, which is a win for my budget. Every once in awhile we will air it out outside on a nice weather day and it helps so much.

This was a lifesaver during stuffy newborn nights and is still running during toddler sniffles. I also love adding a couple drops of calming oil in the diffuser for bedtime — even if the calming effect is more for me than him.

Final Thoughts

If you’re putting together a nursery (or updating it for toddler life), these Amazon finds are the ones I’d buy again in a heartbeat. They’ve survived spit-up, blowouts, teething, sleep regressions, and toddler tantrums — and they’re still going strong.

Because here’s the thing: you don’t need everything, but the right things will last you years.
