Every Sunday morning, like clockwork, we head to the farmers market. It’s kind of our little family tradition—good coffee and empanadas for husband, snack time for toddler, and a stroll through all the pretty stalls. Check out the video here.
But this week, I switched things up. Instead of lugging around the same full-sized diaper bag I’ve been using since my toddler was born, I grabbed my new Iris & Rainbow mini backpack for its first real test run. You can see in my TikTok that morning—I tossed it onto my shoulders and instantly felt like, okay… this is already easier.
Why I Ditched the Big Bag (For Today, At Least)
Don’t get me wrong, my giant diaper bag has been a lifesaver over the past couple of years. But for short trips like the market, it’s overkill. Half the stuff in there I never even touch. And it’s heavy. Like, why am I carrying a week’s worth of supplies for a two-hour outing?
The mini backpack felt like a fresh start—lightweight, colorful, and still roomy enough for the essentials:
A couple diapers + wipes
Snack stash (for market browsing emergencies)
Change of clothes
My wallet, keys, phone
A medicine kit
How It Did at the Market
Hands down—way better than the big bag. I could bend down to help my toddler check out the different stalls without feeling like I was dragging a suitcase. The straps stayed put, the zippers were easy to open one-handed, and I even got a compliment from a vendor about how cute it was. It was so nice to have so much room in the stroller basket for finds at the farmers market.
Will I Switch Forever?
Probably not for every outing. The full diaper bag still has its place for longer days out. But for our Sunday farmers market runs? The Iris & Rainbow mini backpack just earned a permanent spot in the lineup.
