🚗 Disney Road Trip Planning: Type A Mom Edition

Let’s be real—being in a car all day with a toddler and four adults sounds… chaotic. The snacks, the potty breaks, the “are we there yets”—it’s a lot. But as a Type A planner, I can’t help myself. If I’m going to survive four total days of driving (two there, two back), you better believe I’m going in with a game plan that covers every category possible.

You might read this and think, “Wow, that’s actually genius". Or maybe, “She’s a little looney tunes”. Either way—if it sparks an idea for your next road trip, mission accomplished.

🧺 The Bulky but Brilliant Setups

These are the MVPs that make life easier and keep the car from turning into a disaster zone.

  • Car trash can + travel trash bags: Because apparently toddlers go through 17 wipes, 3 snack wrappers, and a tissue per mile.

  • Travel tray (toddler car seat–friendly): Snack surface, coloring table, toy holder—it’s basically their personal airplane tray.

  • Car seat organizer: For the “Where’s the wipes?!” moments that always happen mid-highway.

  • Tablet holder: No neck strain from looking down at the screen—and fewer cries of “I can’t see it!”

  • Plastic food container: A little less crumb chaos, a little more sanity.

Pro tip: Pack an extra roll of paper towels. You’ll thank me later.

🎒 The Easy-Access Essentials

This section is what stands between you and total road trip meltdown. It’s everything you don’t want buried in the trunk under the suitcase.

  • Diapers & wipes (obviously)

  • First aid kit (because toddlers find ways to get boo-boos sitting still)

  • Hand sanitizer & tissues

  • Extra clothes for potty accidents

  • Blanket and lovey for comfort

  • Chargers—plural. For everything.

  • Snacks for quick toddler negotiations

🎨 Toddler Activities (AKA Sanity Savers)

We all know a bored toddler in a car is not the vibe. I’m creating a mini road trip activity kit that’ll keep him entertained—and hopefully buy us a few hours of peace.

  • Travel magnetic tiles

  • iPad/tablet + toddler-safe headphones

  • I Spy book (bonus: keeps adults entertained too)

  • Sticker book

  • Magnet puzzle

  • No-mess Crayola markers & paper (because no one wants marker on the car seat)

  • Pop-it fidget toy

  • A couple books he picks out himself—because ownership apparently makes them 100x more fun

Everything will live in a section of the car organizer so no one has to dig through the abyss of a diaper bag while we’re moving.

🍎 Snacks & Drinks (the Real Road Trip Lifeline)

No road trip survives without good snacks. We’ll be doing a Costco run before we leave because bulk is love, bulk is life.

Here’s the plan:

  • Water bottles (lots of them)

  • Soda for the adults because caffeine = survival

  • Fruit & veggie pouches for the toddler

  • Snack bars

  • Peanut butter crackers

  • Napkins (you can never have too many)

  • Toddler no-spill cups

Basically, we’re trying to keep everyone fed, hydrated, and slightly less grumpy.

By the time we get to Disney, I’ll probably need a vacation from the vacation—but at least I’ll know we were prepared. If you’re also a Type A mom who likes lists, systems, and overthinking car organization... welcome, friend. You’re in good company.

And if you’re not Type A? Maybe just take what you need from this list and laugh with me at how intense I am about car trash cans. Either way—we’ll all be singing “Let It Go” on I-95 soon enough.
