If you’re looking for a funny, creative, and easy DIY toddler Halloween costume, the Energizer Bunny is the perfect choice. My 16-month-old never slows down, so dressing him up as the bunny that “keeps going and going” was not only hilarious but also a perfect fit for his personality.

This costume got tons of compliments on Halloween night, and the best part? The drum doubled as a candy bucket! I’ll walk you through what I bought, how I put it together, and how we tied it into a matching family Halloween costume idea.

What You’ll Need

Here are the supplies I used to create our Energizer Bunny toddler costume:

👉 Optional Family Costume Touch: Plain T-shirts + iron-on vinyl (or HTV) to make matching “Mama Low Battery” and “Daddy Low Battery” shirts.

Step-by-Step: How I Made the Energizer Bunny Costume

Step 1: The Bunny Suit

The base of the costume was a soft, comfy pink bunny outfit. This made the Energizer Bunny instantly recognizable and toddler-friendly.

Step 2: Building the Drum Candy Bucket

This was the most creative part of the project — and also the trickiest!

  1. Make the Drum Base

    • I used two lids plus one paper mâchĂŠ container to form the round drum.

    • The set came with extras, so I can repurpose the remaining boxes.

  2. Paint & Add the Logo

    • I painted everything white first.

    • Then, using my Cricut, I cut vinyl for the Energizer logo, red stripes, and blue border.

    • Even though my spacing wasn’t perfect, it still looked great and got the point across!

  3. Secure Everything Together

    • I glued the lids onto the box with a hot glue gun.

    • The hardest part was cutting out the candy hole — big enough for fun-size candy but small enough to stay sturdy.

    • I let it dry overnight before moving on.

Step 3: Adding the Strap

To make the drum wearable, I clipped a thin dog leash to the right size and glued it inside the drum. For extra security, I reinforced it with duct tape while it dried.

This held up really well — at least until the candy started piling in! By the end of the night, it had held more than 10 fun-size pieces before the strap broke.

Step 4: The Final Touch

No Energizer Bunny is complete without sunglasses. My toddler wasn’t a fan of wearing them for long, but they were the finishing detail that made the whole costume pop.

Family Costume Bonus 🎉

To tie it all together, I made family shirts to match the theme:

  • Daddy – Low Battery

  • Mama – Low Battery

Each shirt had a battery graphic showing only about 20% power. It was such a fun and easy way to make this into a family Halloween costume that everyone loved.

Final Thoughts on Our DIY Toddler Costume

This DIY Energizer Bunny toddler Halloween costume was such a hit. It was funny, unique, and surprisingly easy to put together with just a few Amazon finds and some hot glue. Even though the drum strap gave out by the end of trick-or-treating, it held more candy than I expected and was easy to carry by hand.
