Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk? Clearly, They’ve Never Handled Breast Milk

If you’ve ever spilled breastmilk, you know the saying “don’t cry over spilled milk” doesn’t exactly hold up in real life—especially if you’re a low supplier. Honestly, I don’t think the person who coined that phrase ever had to pump every drop like it was liquid gold.
As a low supplier, every ounce of milk feels precious. You might not have a freezer stash, or sometimes, you barely have enough for the day. I remember multiple times when I accidentally spilled milk and just… completely crashed. For a solid few minutes, I was utterly heartbroken, staring at the floor as if I’d lost treasure.
But here’s the truth: whether you’re a low supplier, a “just enougher,” or an oversupplier, spilling milk hurts. And if you’ve ever cried over it, that’s valid. Your feelings are valid. Your time and effort are valid. And sometimes, yes, it’s okay to mourn that little loss before moving on.
Because parenting isn’t about stoic sayings—it’s about doing your best, even when the best comes in small, sometimes spillable, precious drops.
