Getting the Most Out of an Aquarium Membership: Why Ours Has Been Worth Every Penny

This past holiday season, we decided to gift ourselves something a little different—a Level Ocean Ambassador membership at our local aquarium. We chose this membership because it covers 2 adults + up to 6 youths and includes 3 guest passes per visit. Here’s why it has been a total game-changer for our family.

When we first looked at individual tickets, a day at the aquarium for our whole crew (4 adults + our baby, who’s free) would have cost $200 just for one visit. The Level Ocean Ambassador membership was $300 for the year, giving us unlimited visits, plus guest passes and other perks. For just $100 more, we could visit as many times as we wanted—and we wouldn’t be limited to one special day. For us, that was a no-brainer.

What we’ve actually used so far:

  • Priority entry—no waiting in long lines, which is perfect with a toddler in tow.

  • Discounted parking—a small but sweet perk.

  • Gift shop and café discounts—because yes, sometimes we need a treat or a souvenir.

  • Digital membership card—easy, contactless entry.

There are still benefits we haven’t tapped into yet, like exclusive member-only events, discounts on guest tickets, and discounts on tours or special experiences. But just using the basics, the membership already paid for itself. On our second visit—just our little family—it was already worth it. By the end of the year, we’ll likely have visited more than 10 times, making this membership a huge value.

We’ve also loved using our membership for playdates with friends. For example:

  • One trip with me, our toddler, 2 friends, and their 2 kids.

  • Another visit with me, my husband, our toddler, and another couple with their toddler.

  • A third outing with me, my toddler, a friend, her kid, and her baby.

  • A fourth trip with my cousin and her boyfriend, along with me, my husband, and our toddler.

Bonus: our friends also enjoy discounted parking by coming along on our membership.

Having this membership has been so helpful for a “playdate on the go,” whether it’s a school holiday, a day off, or just a couple hours to wander and admire aquatic animals. It’s flexible, budget-friendly, and honestly—it just makes life easier for a busy family like ours.

If you’re on the fence about an aquarium membership, I’d say: think about how often you’d realistically go, factor in the perks, and imagine the stress-free days exploring, learning, and enjoying time together. For us, it’s been one of the best holiday gifts yet.
