How I Did At-Home Photos for My Toddler’s First St. Patrick’s Day ☘️📸

Simple. Affordable. 20 Minutes Total.

There is something so sweet about documenting the “firsts.” First holidays. First outfits.

First tiny traditions.

For my toddler’s first St. Patrick’s Day, I didn’t book a photographer. I didn’t order a fancy backdrop. I didn’t even leave the house.

I kept it simple — and honestly? I love the photos even more because of that.

Here’s exactly how I did it.

What I Used (That’s It)

  • A plain white blanket

  • A St. Patrick’s Day themed onesie (no longer available)

  • A box of Lucky Charms

  • My phone camera

That’s it. No lighting equipment. No props from Amazon. No stress.

The Setup (Still Under 10 Minutes)

I laid a plain white blanket on the floor near a window for soft natural light.

Then I took a small handful of Lucky Charms and spread them in a curved rainbow shape across the top of the blanket. Nothing perfect — just a loose little arch to give the “over the rainbow” vibe.

I placed the cereal box right at the end of the rainbow so it looked like the charms were pouring out.

It took maybe two minutes to arrange.

The bright cereal colors against the white blanket made everything pop without needing extra decorations.

Why the Rainbow Trick Works

  • It instantly screams St. Patrick’s Day

  • It adds color without clutter

  • It gives your eye somewhere to look

  • It feels creative but still effortless

And the best part? If your toddler grabs a marshmallow mid-shoot… it just adds to the memory.

Why I Love Simple Holiday Photos

You don’t need a full production to capture memories.

These kinds of quick at-home sessions:

  • Keep your toddler comfortable

  • Feel low pressure

  • Don’t overwhelm you

  • Actually get done

As a busy mom (especially one juggling content, blog life, and real life), I’ve learned that simple always wins. It was 10–20 minutes total. And now I have photos I’ll look back on forever.

If You Want to Try This

Here’s your permission slip:

You don’t need:

  • A DSLR

  • A styled backdrop

  • Perfect behavior

  • Pinterest-level perfection

You need:

  • A window

  • A blanket

  • One themed item

  • Your phone

That’s it.

Sometimes the best memories are the easiest ones to make. ☘️💚
