We’ve done two day trips to Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania with our son—once when he was just 4 months old and again on Father’s Day when he had just turned 1. Both trips were honestly pretty similar overall, but with a few little changes depending on the weather and his age. I thought I’d share what worked for us (and what gear we used) in case you’re planning your own visit with a little one.
Our First Trip: 4 Months Old
The first time we went, he was still such a tiny baby. The weather was cool, so he was bundled up in layers with a blanket tucked around him in the stroller. We brought our UPPAbaby stroller, and I cannot recommend it enough for days like this—the wheels handled the different paths and terrains without a problem.
We also had our Tushbaby with us, which was super helpful, especially for my mom when she wanted to hold him without straining her arms. After lunch, he cozied up in the Ergobaby carrier and took the sweetest nap while we kept walking through the gardens.

Our Second Trip: 1 Year Old
The second time was for Father’s Day, right after he turned 1. The setup was basically the same—UPPAbaby stroller and Tushbaby—because they worked so well the first time. The only real difference was the weather; it was much warmer, so we clipped on a stroller fan to keep him cool.
The best part of this trip was just seeing how much more engaged he was. At 1 year old, he was paying attention to everything and definitely enjoyed himself more than when he was a newborn.

Looking Ahead
We’re already excited to go back again now that he’s walking. I can only imagine how much fun it’ll be to watch him toddle (and eventually run) around the gardens instead of just riding along.
Tips if You’re Visiting Longwood Gardens with a Baby
Bring an all-terrain stroller. Our UPPAbaby was perfect for the gardens and made it so much easier to enjoy the day.
Have a Tushbaby handy. It’s great for short breaks from the stroller and grandparents especially love it.
Pack a soft carrier. Our Ergobaby made nap time on the go so simple.
Don’t forget a stroller fan. Total lifesaver on warmer days.
Bundle up for cooler visits. Layers and a blanket kept our little one comfortable at just 4 months old.
