Our 2025 Halloween: When Wicked Took Over (and My Husband Became Glinda) đđâ¨

Thereâs something magical about a solo mom outing â no diaper bag, no schedule, no list. Just me, aimlessly wandering the store aisles like itâs a mini vacation. (Seriously, if you know, you know.) Thatâs when it happened â I spotted it. A tiny Flying Monkey costume. I wasnât even looking for Halloween stuff yet, but the second I saw those little wings, I knew my toddler had to be it.

Originally, I was thinking about doing a cute little DIY âTrash Truckâ costume â because my toddler is obsessed. But one look at that adorable monkey outfit and my plans flew right out the window. I mean⌠it was destiny.
So then I thought, âAlright, how do we make this a family costume?âWho would we be as parents in this little Wicked world? Iâd be Elphaba, and my husband would be Fiyero â the perfect match to our tiny Flying Monkey.
Iâm a huge fan of Wicked â Iâve seen the Broadway show, saw the first Wicked movie, and Iâm counting down the days until Part Two comes out. So, of course, this felt meant to be.
But then⌠I went on a girlsâ trip. And my friends (being the chaotic geniuses they are) convinced me to switch it up â and make my husband Glinda. Cue the laughter. To my surprise, he agreed. Heâs a trooper, truly.
So there I was, hunting for a witch hat and broom, and adding a Glinda crown and wand to the cart. I even made sure we matched â because if weâre doing this, weâre doing it right. I may have dropped the ball on ordering things in advance, though. So it ended up being me in a simple cape and him in a pink shirt and robe. His crown wouldnât stay on, my hat kept sliding off, but we powered through for the photos. (Because if you donât document it, did it even happen?)

And my favorite Halloween tradition? Every year, we take a video of us âtrick-or-treatingâ at our own front door. Yep â I set up my phone, we knock, and walk in saying âTrick or treat!â Itâs our third year doing it, and I swear itâs one of the sweetest little things weâve started. Watching how much our toddler grows each year in those videos? Pure gold.
So this year, we were Wicked â quite literally. A mama Elphaba, a sparkly husband Glinda, and one mischievous little monkey. And you know what? It was perfectly us. đ
If youâre reading this, consider it your sign to go for the funny costume, the last-minute idea, or the one that makes your toddler giggle. Oh â and definitely film that trick-or-treat video at your own door. Youâll thank yourself later. đĽâ¨
