The Essentials We Keep at Baby’s Grandparents’ House (So We Never Have to Pack Them Again)

If there’s one thing motherhood has taught me, it’s this: the less I have to pack, the better my life becomes.
Bringing a baby anywhere feels like preparing for a cross-country expedition. And going to the grandparents’ house? That used to mean mentally running through a never-ending checklist: Do we have diapers? Wipes? Toys? A safe place to nap?
So we finally made the best decision ever — we created a set of “grandparents’ house essentials” that stay there permanently. No more scrambling, no more forgetting things, no more diaper-bag Tetris. Just smooth visits, happy baby, and relaxed parents.
Here’s everything we stocked their house with (and why it’s made life so much easier).
1. Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick & Play Piano Gym + Maracas
This is one of the best newborn-to-toddler toys we own — so we bought a second one to leave at Grandma’s.
Why it made the cut:
Gives baby something familiar to play with
Perfect for tummy time
Has “grow-with-baby” play options
Keeps little ones busy while adults visit, cook, or just catch their breath
Plus, the detachable keyboard and soft playmat make it super flexible for different stages.
2. A Small Pack of Diapers
We didn’t go crazy here — just a smaller pack of Pampers Swaddlers. They last a while since they’re only used during visits.
These have saved us from SO many “Oh no… we forgot the diaper bag” moments.
3. A Bulk Pack of Wipes
We left a giant pack of Pampers Ultra Clean wipes to live there forever.
They’re 99% water, hypoallergenic, and perfect for:
Diaper changes
Messy hands
Spit-up
Sticky toddler chaos
Grandparents usually love over-preparing — this helps them feel ready.
4. High-Contrast Soft Baby Books
These Beiens crinkle books are magic for babies. They’re:
Safe and soft
Great for early visual development
Full of textures, sound, and flip features
Amazing for tummy time
We keep a set there so baby always has something engaging to play with — especially helpful when grandparents want some bonding time.
5. Pack ’n Play Sheets
Because spit-up happens… and so do diaper leaks.
We left these mini crib sheets so:
The Pack ’n Play is always prepped
Grandparents don’t have to scramble
We don’t have to bring spare bedding every time
They’re soft, breathable, and machine washable — a win all around.
6. Graco Pack ’n Play On-The-Go Playard
This is the BIGGEST game-changer. Baby always has a safe place to nap or play, and grandparents don’t have to tear their house apart every time we visit.
Features we love:
Built-in bassinet
Quick fold
Compact storage
Has a toy bar
Honestly, having a permanent sleep space at their house has been worth every penny.
7. Pacifiers (We Leave a Few!)
The Evenflo Balance+ pacifiers are our favorite, so we left extras at the grandparents’ house.
They support natural tongue movement, mimic breastfeeding, and are super easy to clean. Plus — and this is key — they’re there when we forget ours, which is basically every other visit.
8. Silicone Pacifier Clips
These stay attached to the pacifiers we leave at their house so baby isn’t dropping them on floors, rugs, or the dog.
Bonus:
Safe, food-grade silicone
Also doubles as a teether
Lightweight and grab-friendly
A small thing, but one that makes every visit smoother.
Final Thoughts
If you visit the grandparents often, leaving a small stash of essentials is a sanity-saver. It cuts packing time in half, avoids last-minute stress, and helps baby feel at home — no matter whose house you’re at.
And grandparents love having their own little “baby setup.”
It’s a win for everyone.
