Okay, so when our little guy was 16 months, we went apple picking with some friends, and they suggested Larriland Farm. Honestly, it was SUCH a fun outing. There was a little market with snacks and drinks, plus an area to pick apples. Perfect fall vibes.
Watching him toddle through the apple trees? Comedy gold. The orchard was a bit hilly, so he was all wobbly and cautious. He wasn’t super interested in actually picking apples, but guess what? He started saying “apple” over and over. Total win. And yes, he got a tiny funnel cake and one sip of frozen apple cider (my absolute favorite fall treat).
Some tips if you’re thinking about taking your toddler:
Bring hand sanitizer—you’ll thank me later.
Wear comfy shoes—this isn’t a fashion show, it’s a fall adventure.
Leave the diaper bag in the car if you can—travel light and enjoy the chaos.
Even if they’re not grabbing every apple, fruit picking is actually awesome for toddlers’ development. At 16 months, it helps:
Language skills: saying “apple” and pointing at fruit is huge.
Motor skills: grabbing, reaching, walking on slightly uneven ground—it’s all growth.
Sensory play: touching leaves, smelling apples, tasting a little fruit—hello, sensory heaven.
Patience & curiosity: following along at their own pace teaches focus and confidence.
Nature connection: being outside exploring is just good for the soul (and yours too!).
Honestly, even if they just want to eat treats and say “apple” a hundred times, it’s such a sweet memory and makes for a perfect fall day.
