Confetti, Tiny Suits, and Chaos: My Baby’s First New Year’s Eve Photoshoot

As we get closer to the end of the year, I can’t help but remember one of my favorite little memories—our baby’s first New Year’s Eve photoshoot. He was just six months old, and I wanted to make it special. Honestly, I know as he gets older, pulling off these fun, over-the-top little moments will get harder and harder—but for now, I was determined to make it magical.

I dressed him in a tiny suit (yes, the kind that melts your heart instantly), hung up a sparkly New Year’s Eve banner, and had a handful of confetti ready to go. Pro tip: if you’re doing confetti, keep a very close eye on those little hands—they think everything shiny is snackable. I had a front-row seat as he tried to taste-test my festive sprinkles!
The whole setup was ridiculously simple—I used a white blanket I already had as the backdrop for a clean, classic look. You can drape it over chairs or a crib and secure it with clamps or weights, or if you’re planning more photoshoots, a backdrop holder works wonders (that’s what I used). Honestly, the entire setup and photos only took about 15 minutes.

For the photos, we just let him explore. We tried silly noises, toys held high, and even a little “Hey Bear” music to capture those curious expressions.
Here are a few photo tips I learned along the way:
Natural lighting is your friend. Open windows and let the light hit them from the side or front instead of behind—your photos will look brighter and softer.
Stability matters. Think about investing in a tripod for your phone, and if you’re feeling fancy, a camera clicker can be a game-changer.
Capture the moments in video too. I love using my iPhone’s video mode while taking still photos, or having a second device recording. Sometimes, the best memories are in the tiny giggles or the silly things we said to get his attention. Looking back on video always brings me right back to that little chaos.
The result? A few adorable shots, a lot of giggles, and confetti in places I didn’t know it could go. Looking back, I can’t help but smile. These tiny, chaotic, perfectly imperfect moments are the ones you never forget—because one day, he’ll be too busy for confetti explosions and silly photoshoots. And that’s why, even if it’s just for fifteen minutes, we make the time to celebrate the little things.
